Tour de France

Most of France will be talking about football yesterday as their team managed a historic win against reigning champions Germany. For our part, we will be covering one of the greatest cycling races in the world, if not the greatest, Le Tour de France – with a coverage of some of our nicest properties along the way.
Tour de France is in its 103rd edition this year and consists of 21 stages or in French “étapes” which is a leg of the race between two cities. Every year, the organizers change the itinerary so that le Tour remains entertaining as much as it is challenging. 2016 saw the arrival of new towns in the race such as Saint-Lô in the Manche department, Megève in Haute-Savoie or Chantilly in Oise. Beautiful cities and an opportunity to visit them if you are in the region and want to enjoy a great day out.

Le Tour, just like France attracts numerous visitors and special guests too. Berne in Switzerland is on the itinerary this year, our readers will remember the Grand Start in York for the 2014 edition.

British cyclists are also driven by the will to succeed on the French roads, Cavendish won the 1st stage on Utah Beach and the 6th stage yesterday, his 29th stage win in Le Tour. He now ranks second behind legendary Eddy Merckx with only 5 wins to go to be on par, likely to happen.

If you look at all the races actually, there were only 3 years when Brits did not take place and the arrival of Team Sky nowadays means that there the British contingent will also provide serious competition.

A love affair with Tour de France, France even. French life has always been one of top reasons for Brits to go holidaying there, many even own a second home there for regular visits. How about you, are you considering buying too? Sextant Properties can assist with the buying process, we also boast thousands of homes for sale.
