Discovering Megeve On A Skiing Weekend

A ski weekend in Megeve is certainly memorable; expect picturesque scenery, extensive skiing and some superb mountain restaurants. There are three main ski areas; Mont D’arbois, Rochebrune and Le Jaillet, which collectively offer 445 km of pistes and are served by 111 lifts. With an abundance of wide open tree lined slopes, Megeve is incidentally. When the snow is falling, Megeve is widely renowned for some pretty great skiing due to un-skied terrain and endless woodland runs that are often deserted. Picture postcard scenery is in abundance!

Megeve is a fantastic option for intermediates who will just revel in variety. Experts are also well catered for with some challenging black runs that trickle down the back of the Mount Joux. Generally speaking, slopes are wide, open and scenic which is an interesting alternative to the narrow red and blacks. Cross Country skiiers will be grinning ear to ear in Megeve, as there are almost 40km of varied trails dedicated them.

Quirky, chic and traditionally French, Megeve is an iconic ski resort that exudes class. Born in the 1920s out of an attempt by the French to win over skiers from Switzerland’s ritzy Saint Moritz, Megeve is, essentially, the original purpose built French ski resort that remains an ideal option for  those seeking a relaxing weekend escape to the French Alps. Rather unsurprisingly, this is a classy resort and the cobbled streets of Megeve have retained their French charm resulting in a well preserved, highly fashionable and aesthetically pleasing town centre.

Bursting with character and often bathed in sunshine, Megève is certainly a great option for those wanting to holiday in a ski resort that offers an authentic French atmosphere as well as some scenic and fairly extensive skiing.

Megeve is very well suited to non-skiers who can lose themselves in a myriad of designer shops, terrific restaurants and quirky jazz bars. Furthermore, with plenty of off snow entertainment available including horse drawn sleigh rides, indoor and outdoor ice rinks and a highly rated spa, Megeve is a ski resort that certainly caters for all.
