Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

Come on, let’s try Megève!

When it comes to winter magic, mountains have got everything going for them: sparkling snow, days to be spent skiing, the comfort of the sunny mountain terraces, mulled wine, cosy chalets, tasty fondue … With Christmas is on its way and the first snowflakes beginning to fall, there is truly nothing better than revelling in the winter magic of the ski resorts and beautiful Alpine villages with their wooden chalets.

With its pleasant and relaxing mountain setting, Megève is a town that truly embodies this winter magic and charm. Today, Megève is one of the most famous ski resorts in the French Alps. Unlike some places in the French Alps, it has managed to get the balance right, having preserved its mountain village charm and authenticity, yet also maintaining its image as a chic winter destination.

Situated in the heart of the French Alps, the village first came to widespread attention in the 1910s when the De Rothchilds family wanted an alternative to the Swiss ski resort, St Moritz. There are plenty of activities on offer, lots of places to entertain all the family and the town is always beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays. The Megève ski area, ‘Domaine Evasion Montblanc’ offers around 276 miles of ski slopes and 116 ski lifts. A wide range of winter sports are on offer at the resort, from skiing, cross-country country skiing to snowshoeing and snowman building! Megève is also a popular summer holiday destination, well known for its golf courses.

Enjoying a superb natural setting, Megève is an hour’s drive from Geneva airport and only 7 miles from the Sallanches station for high-speed rail services. It is also ideally located for visits to Italy and Switzerland.

You won’t find any ugly low-rise blocks in Megève, but lots of Savoyard chalets. The town is lively and vibrant all year round with breath-taking views and great snow cover. Slopes, ski specialists, exceptional views, sports facilities, spas, mulled wine and local Savoyard specialities are waiting for you! In addition to all this, the smash hit film ‘Frozen’ has given winter an unprecedented popularity among youngsters wanting to build their very own Olafs. So, do you want to build a snowman in Mègeve?
